This project was very dear to our hearts. Going on the Wixarika pilgrimage was a huge game-changer for us. It tested us to our core in ways we couldn’t have imagined. On the last day, we circled back to end our work at the village (...) to dance all day, as per tradition. We found ourselves negotiating the space under a tiny plastic tarp which provided the only shade from the desert sun, but under the plastic it was unbearably hot. There was no respite, and we thought about them having to do that every year. So we raised money to build a structure for them, and now the last day of their pilgrimage is shady and cool, and they are so happy.
